Veron_Language_CenterAbout This Course
English for Semiconductor Engineering Faculty is a professional development course designed for university instructors, lecturers, and teaching assistants in semiconductor-related disciplines who must deliver content in English as the medium of instruction (EMI).
Using the textbook ChipTalk: English Skills for the Nano Age, this course blends advanced technical communication with practical teaching English for engineering. Participants will review essential semiconductor vocabulary, practice grammar structures frequently used in lectures and lab instructions, and gain strategies for explaining complex topics clearly to non-native speakers.
Course activities include:
-
Giving mini-lectures and tutorials in English
-
Writing lab procedures and assignment guidelines
-
Explaining diagrams, charts, and fabrication processes
-
Handling student questions and discussion
-
Correcting language and managing classroom interactions
-
Using appropriate tone, structure, and technical collocations
-
Preparing slides and presenting semiconductor case studies in English
Participants will also explore pronunciation clarity, cross-cultural classroom communication, and how to simplify dense technical English for easier student comprehension.
By the end of the course, instructors will:
-
Confidently teach semiconductor content in English
-
Use accurate and professional language for lectures, labs, and materials
-
Guide student projects, answer questions, and give feedback clearly in English
-
Communicate fluently across a multilingual classroom and international teams
-
Prepare EMI-ready lesson plans, syllabi, and course materials using best practices
This course is ideal for faculty preparing for EMI accreditation, transitioning from Vietnamese instruction, or joining internationally partnered STEM programs.
